Coordinating the Community Response in the East Riding of Yorkshire to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic – An Update from East Riding Council
Work is now well underway to determine how best to support our vulnerable residents during this challenging time as we all respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Central Government has asked all councils to coordinate support to particularly vulnerable residents as older residents and those with defined underlying medical conditions are advised to self-isolate and shield themselves from non-essential social contact for a number of weeks. East Riding Council are going to tackle this by working alongside the HEY Smile Foundation, a charity which works closely with the private, public and voluntary sectors, and will create a strong position to provide that support to our residents who most need it.
The Council are very much aware of the great work and community spirit that has been established over the last few weeks across the East Riding in response to this pandemic and the council would like to work alongside those residents who have set up groups to provide additional help and support. The Council would like to build a picture and understanding of what community and other groups there are out there across the East Riding willing to help those residents who need it, and are therefore asking for details of this support to be registered on www.beecan.org.
Guidance on how to register can be found in this video https://youtu.be/q2Xy2Yd0TFs
This website is hosted by the HEY Smile Foundation and the aim is to build up a detailed database of organisations that can work alongside the Council and build our resilience when helping those in need. It also provides a central point of coordination for voluntary and community groups to link in with hubs across the East Riding, helping to access emergency funding and resources where they are needed most.
