A message from Involve Hull

26/08/2020

Our research changes lives and communities. Get involved with us: shape our research.

We are looking for people like you to get involved in shaping our health research at the University of Hull.

By sharing your experiences as a patient, carer or user of health and care services, you can help us to focus on what really matters to people. We want our research to be relevant to real-life issues and to reflect your interests and concerns.

You can get involved in our research by joining our new volunteer network, Involve Hull. We are looking for patients, carers and people who use health and care services across Hull, East Yorkshire, and North and North East Lincolnshire. In response to the coronavirus pandemic, we are running the network from home and are not currently meeting face to face. This means that our work takes place online, or by email, telephone and post, so that you can easily get involved wherever you live.

Our pioneering research covers many areas including cancer, primary care, end of life care, healthy pregnancies and alcohol addiction. You can choose which projects you work with.

One of our main research programmes is about transforming cancer outcomes in Yorkshire and the Humber. Funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research, this is led by researchers at Hull York Medical School. The research will help to understand why differences exist in cancer diagnosis and survival in Hull and the Humber, and across Yorkshire. It will also look at how to reduce inequalities, speed up referrals, and improve access to care and treatment. We will focus on early diagnosis and detection of cancer, helping people to live with and beyond cancer, and end of life care.

Joining our network is your chance to influence what we do and how we do it.

By getting involved, you can have your say about:

  • The topics we research
  • How we carry out our research
  • How we recruit patients to take part
  • The information we give participants
  • How we promote our research

You can find out more about Involve Hull on our website www.hull.ac.uk/InvolveHull. You can also email InvolveHull@hull.ac.uk or ring Helen Roberts, Patient and Public Involvement Coordinator on 01482 463273. Please also get in touch if you belong to any local groups and would like to arrange for us to talk to your group about getting involved in our research.

Healthwatch East Riding of Yorkshire have great pleasure in publishing our Annual Report for the period April 2019 to March 2020. The report highlights some of the work we have been doing in this, our seventh year of operation. It has been a busy year and we have achieved a great deal in challenging times amidst the Coronavirus outbreak.
