North Lincolnshire & Goole CQC inspection Healthwatch Response.

The following is a joint response from Healthwatch North East Lincolnshire, Healthwatch North Lincolnshire and Healthwatch East Riding of Yorkshire to the September 2018 publication of the CQC inspection of the North Lincolnshire and Goole Hospital Trust.

Northern Lincolnshire & Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has made some progress in its latest inspection from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), but more needs to be done to improve services for local people. A full inspection of the Trust including community services was carried out in May 2018.

Sadly the rating of Goole & District hospital overall went down, the rating for Dianna Princess of Wales Hospital remained the same and the rating for Scunthorpe General improved; however all three hospitals received a Requires Improvement rating. The Trust received a Requires Improvement rating in respect of being safe, effective and responsive and in respect of being well-led they were rated as Inadequate.

Within the specific services review both the Community End of Life Care and Community Health Services for Children, Young People and Families received good ratings from the CQC.

The joint response from Healthwatch North East Lincolnshire, Healthwatch North Lincolnshire and Healthwatch East Riding of Yorkshire states….
“Healthwatch welcome the latest CQC report and acknowledge that although there is disappointment in some of the outcomes, specifically that of Goole & District falling back to Requires Improvement. There is also a sense of optimism from Healthwatch as some improvements have been made across the trust. Healthwatch have worked closely this year with NLAG and the Trust have been open to listening to the patient voice in the hope of improving services. Now more than ever this is a chance for all partners of NLAG to be proactive and supportive in the continued drive to improve services. Healthwatch are aware that drastic improvements still need to be made to ensure that service users are getting the safest, effective and most caring service they can whilst under the care of NLAG. Healthwatch will continue to be a critical partner to the trust moving forward and represent the patient and public voice in attempts to produce recommendations that will help improve the trusts status.”

The more people tell Healthwatch about their experiences, the greater the impact the public will have on improving services. Please contact your local Healthwatch today to ensure your feedback is heard.
