Stay at home Mile

Yesterday, Fitmums & Friends launched the ‘Stay at home mile’ – a new idea to help keep people moving at a time when being confined and isolated may strongly limit ability and desire to be active.

They are encouraging people to run or walk at least a mile a day, in whatever space they have – it is even possible to run or walk a mile on the spot! A mile is about 2,000 steps. If people prefer, they can break this up and do, for example, 500 steps four times a day. This way the challenge also works for children, while older people can do arm chair walking on the spot.

To track completed miles, participants colour in a segment on our rainbow chart (found on their website). Within a month, they will have a beautiful coloured rainbow, which can also be displayed in a window to show support for our amazing NHS and key workers.

More information and the rainbow chart can be found on our website at https://fitmums.org.uk/news-article/Stay-at-home-mile/198
